    Ms. Putrus

    August 2018

    Dear 6th Grade Cougar,

Welcome to Cajon Valley Middle School!! I'm sure you are very excited about starting middle school and curious about your new teachers, so I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself.  You will get a chance to tell me about your life when you write a letter back to me.

I am Ms. Putrus, one of your 6th grade teachers here at CVMS. I was born here in San Diego and grew up in the city of Spring Valley where I rode my bike, went swimming, and played at the local park. I attended Hillsdale Middle School. I am the youngest of a family of 6 – one twin sister, three older sisters, and one older brother. Along with having 4 sisters and 1 brother, I also have 5 nieces, 4 nephews, another niece and nephew on the way who I love spending my free time with. My family is very important to me; we spend most of our time together going to the beach, traveling to visit more family in Michigan, playing baseball in the backyard, and just laughing with one another.

My parents came from Iraq and moved to the United States in 1984. I speak Arabic, Chaldean, a little bit of Spanish, and English. I went back to visit Iraq when I was five years old and learned how to speak the language. I even forgot how to speak English when I came back home!

I have been teaching for 10 years and love my job! I have taught at a couple different schools: Chase Elementary and Emerald Middle School. I teach English, history, ELD, and leadership. I enjoy teaching because I enjoy helping people, learning with my students, and meeting so many different people. I also coach the after-school sports program here at CVMS. I went to college at San Diego State University where I earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Credential for teaching.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy playing sports during my free time.  My favorite sport is football, but I play other sports like basketball, tennis, soccer, and volleyball.  When I have time, I love to travel. I've visited many states in the USA and other countries like Spain, Japan, Netherlands, and Mexico. I also like different kinds of music and love to dance! My favorite drink is coffee and my favorite food is red rice and chicken.

We are going to have a fun and successful 6th grade year with lots of exciting experiences. I am here to support you in your first year of middle school.  I look forward to learning about you.  You will have an opportunity to write me a letter about who you are, your interests, and anything else you care to share with me.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Putrus
